What are two of your favorite book to move adaptations? - A Bookish Mess

Well, this one might fee a little cliche, but I cannot help what I like. I wanted to choose about 6 different things for this prompt; but I decided it would be easier to choose the two that I keep going back to. I have a 9 year old and these are the two that we keep going back to. Movie-a-thons are a great time in our house!

 → → → → → → Harry Potter ← ← ← ← ← ←

No matter what is going on in our lives, we always have time for Harry Potter! I love that she loves these books and movies as much as I do.. We even recently went to visit Harry Potter World and she has not been able to stop talking about it! We have also started really getting into collecting all things Harry Potter!

When these movies first came out, I thought the cast was just wrong.. Not all of them, I thought Harry Potter was cast perfectly. Hermione was the one that I the most issues with. The way the book described her was just NOT what I saw when I looked at Emma Watson. Around the second movie though, she grew on me. I went back and re-read the novels and I pictured her in the spot as Hermione and everything just kind of started to mesh. I thought Ron was perfect as well! As usual, I felt like the movies could have had a bit more from the books, but overall this is my most favorite adaptation to date!

→ → → → → → The Hunger Games ← ← ← ← ← ←

I know what you're thinking - I KNEW someone was going to pick this. I could not make this prompt without having this on the list as well. I waited until the hype died down to read these books because I did not want to be disappointed (like I was with Twilight and some others). Now I am kicking myself that I waited so long, because I completely fell in love with these.

I think they did an excellent job of bringing the capital to the movies. They captured the characters perfectly. I was a little iffy at first about Josh Hutcherson being cast as Peeta, but it came together for me. I kind of saw Liam Hemsworth in his spot, but I think it was done perfectly. Liam would have been the "obvious" choice and I don't think (as much as I LOVE him) he would have done Peeta any justice. I have my daughter hooked on these as well! Except she leaves the room every time she knows Rue is about to die & she cannot watch Mockingjay Part 2 without crying when Prim dies either.

  2. Harry Potter, it will always be in our hearts. I haven't read THG, I know, don't kill me please, but actually never got my attention. However, I saw the first three movies and I like them very much. They're really good!

    Great choices!

  3. I loved Harry Potter's film adaptations. I did not like The Hunger Games first movie. Probably because I had taught the first book several years, and they left so many things out that it ruined it for me. Now the third book, Mockingjay, I didn't like, but they did such a great job with that movie, that I liked it, or both of them, better than the book. I'd have to say other than Harry Potter, my favorite adaptation would be The Green Mile by Stephen King, that was such a great movie. I cried at the very beginning when they brought the big guy into prison, it was just done so well.

  4. Haha! This is such a coincidence! HP and The Hunger games made into my list too! And I didn't get a problem with the casting is because I watched the movies when they came out but I have only just started reading the books and I am totally enjoying them. Aww I get sad too when Rue dies, I just can't watch it without tears in my eyes!

  6. I also picked the Harry Potter series. I saw (most of) the movies before I ever read the books. When I read them after I graduated college, I saw the pieces that were majorly missnig from the films.

  10. Interesting about Emma/Hermione. She isn't exactly how I'd pictured her, but I thought Emma as a little girl was an average looking kid whose teased up hair suited my vision of Hermione. Dan Radcliffe didn't look like the Harry in my head. His face was too round.
