The last thing Vaughan Hewson expects to find when he returns to his childhood home is a broken hearted bride in his shower, let alone the drama and chaos that comes with her.

Lydia Green doesn't know whether to burn down the church or sit and cry in a corner. Discovering the love of your life is having an affair on your wedding day is bad enough. Finding out it's with his best man is another thing all together. She narrowly escapes tying the knot and meets Vaughan only hours later.

Vaughan is the exact opposite of the picture perfect, respected businessman she thought she'd marry. This former musician-turned-bartender is rough around the edges and unsettled. But she already tried Mr. Right and discovered he's all wrong-maybe it's time to give Mr. Right Now a chance.

After all, what's wrong with getting dirty?

Peyton's Thoughts

Kylie Scott rocked my entire world when she wrote the story of Lydia and Vaughan.. This is the first novel I have read from this author and I was insanely impressed. I actually bought this one for the sole purpose of reading this line in the synopsis -- the last thing Vaughan Hewson expects to find when he returns to his childhood home is a broken hearted bride in his shower. I mean, doesn't that just sound like a raging good time right there?!
“Things as I knew them were just props. My happiness needed to come from me. I could build my own home, make a future for myself. Not rely on someone else to come along and magically make me feel like I had worth,as if I belonged. I could be strong on my own.”
Lydia is a hot mess in a wedding gown. Seriously; I have never seen someones life fall around her so quickly. The amount of chaos and drama that entered her life in the time it took to watch a life-changing video that was sent to her anonymously. I felt for Lydia in so many ways. To have your life completely turned upside down and having to fight your way back up from nothing... when she worked so hard to get away from that very nothing she found herself in again. Despite all of that, Lydia is a force to be reckoned with! She's hilarious (and I am not even kidding about this part).. the mouth and wit on this girl would give ME a run for my money, and that is saying something! She's funny, insanely loyal to those she values as true friends.. She knows what she wants and even though she might be afraid to go after giving prior and past circumstances, she's not letting anything stand in the way of her finding the happiness she was cheated out of in the first place.
“At least I had my memories of him bare ass naked to keep me happy in the meantime. And trust me, there was real happiness to be had in having seen this man naked. My dreams had better be full of him, or I and my subconscious would be having a serious talk.”
Vaughan is a slightly tortured soul. He doesn't have the scarred past that most of the Alphas we read about.. but he's wounded all the same. He suffered a loss that many of us would not even know where to begin to start learning to deal and he has let it shape him into the way he is living his life now.. Vaughan is music.. Music is Vaughan. It's what he knows, all he wants to do and it's been taken from him.. Back home to figure out his life - his life takes another turn when he stumbles, literally, on Lydia in his shower.. Vaughan has no issues matching Lydia's wit and the two of them together have enough chemistry to set the pages on fire! Our little tortured soul is an expert at keeping things inside.. but the more he gets to know Lydia, the more things that come out and the more he sees he needs to get things in order to figure out just where he wants and needs to be in his life.
“I’d broken into his house, but he’d somehow broken into me, cracked me wide open, exposing me to so much more of life than what had existed before."
It was truly a joy to watch the two of them happen. I loved that Kylie Scott took her time with these two. I didn't feel like anything was rushed. I valued the fact that we got to see a friendship form, even under the craziest of circumstances.. I mean, anyone who can help get you off the hook of jail time - is totally a winner in my book! I rooted for them the entire novel. There was nothing more I wanted than to see these two finally be able to be happy! I almost threw the book across the room at the end, because I honestly thought it was going to end like that.. Then I came to my sense and finished, and I am glad that I did! Let's back pedal a little to the chemistry I was speaking off.. I hope you have an extra pair of panties ready ladies -- Vaughan will seriously make you need them.. a time or two!
“Can’t stop touching you,” he said.
“Please don’t.”
“Why the hell haven’t we been doing this before now,” he whispered in my ear, breathing heavy.
“Because we’re idiots?”
I also want to touch on the secondary characters of this novel! There are quite a few but I feel like without them, we wouldn't have gotten the depth of Vaughan that we needed to fully understand him. They also helped shape this novel into the piece of artwork that it is. One in particular is his sister Nell.. She played an amazing part in this story and she touched both their lives - which in turned touched my heart! Nell is a special character and I do hope we will be getting to know more of her! I am excited and eagerly awaiting the second novel!
